I really love this one, it emotes a lot of feelings. It gives off a sort of lost innocence look. Also may she seem she isn't good enough to be an angel, has she sined? The story behind this could be one of many things, but gives the audience a chance for the story to come to them, and that takes a true artist to bring that out in his or her work. You are very good with your proportions, and your shading is very good...not to much or to little detail. With the blood all around her, randomly skewed about makes it seem she's been hacking away at her now stumpy pathetic wings for quite some time...slowly from the pain...or did she just go a bit crazy in shame of them? Again gives the audience a chance to judge for themselves. The blood coming from her eyes is the perfect touch, as if ridding herself of her wings is killing her on the inside...which to me makes it feel more of an ashamed feel into this girl angel. Truly a wonderful piece, I love your art! I would get a tattoo from you someday and trust it would be a beautiful piece of art.
Believe it or not, in the original sketch, her wings were folded and she was holding a rose. I don't really remember where the cut up wing idea came from, maybe just a night I was PMSing or something. Heh. I don't get to do as much art with emotion in it, being a tattoo artist, so stuff like this is a nice change once in awhile. I also love hearing people's interpretation of stuff like this. I think this was one of the first ones I colored on my bamboo tablet when I got it. I'm still playing around with different coloring methods and whatnot. Every piece is a learning experience!
man i love your art, such cool ideas. and your tattoos amaze me. i think this one might be my favorite though - so powerful and sad. it's a shame you have to include the copyright watermarks, but such is life in this world i suppose. great work!
I know, you have no idea how much I loathe watermarks, I think it ruins the art. But sadly, I've had scratchers people steal photographs of my tattoos for use in their portfolios, and they've stolen my art for business cards and see shirts, so I no longer let my art out without watermarks. Which sucks for everyone...
I do like this one too, it's a personal favorite of mine and I hope to do more like this is the future. This one stands out because of the emotion, it's not just like, "Oh look, cute pin up." I do wants to get more emotion in my work, sooo... we'll see, hopefully I'll be able to do more moody stuff like this. Thanks for the comment and the feedback, no one ever comments anymore...!
I usually work from photo reference as often as I can, but I never find the perfect picture, so a lot of time I work from 2 or 3 photos, or end up drawing expressions or hands out of my head. I think the blood splatters took me the longest on this one. And I musta drawn and erased her lips at least 15 times. Thanks for the feedback, I love hearing specifics!
Yeah I don't like blondes either, but this character is blonde (and not the typical airhead), in fact, the comic book project I'm working on the male character's bitching about her and he mentions that... "She's not even my type. No tits... skinny ass... bony hips... and a fuckin' blonde to boot..."
